Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often. If you don't see what you're looking for, contact our office and we'll be glad to help.

It's been years since I saw a dentist. Will I get a lecture?

No. Long gaps are far more common than most people assume, and they're usually the result of a busy stretch of life, a bad experience somewhere else, or cost. A first visit back is an exam and a conversation about where things actually stand. Dr. Ali will tell you what needs attention now, what can reasonably wait, and roughly in what order, and you decide from there. Nothing gets scheduled that you haven't agreed to.

Will I actually see Dr. Ali, or whoever is available?

You'll see Dr. Ali. Jackson Dental is a single-dentist practice, so she personally handles exams, treatment, and the conversation about what to do next at every appointment. A hygienist performs cleanings, and Dr. Ali does the exam that goes with them.

Do you have evening or Saturday appointments?

Yes. We're open Wednesdays until 8:00 PM and Saturday mornings from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, which covers most people who can't take time off during the week. Full hours are Tuesday 9:00 AM–2:00 PM, Wednesday 2:00 PM–8:00 PM, Thursday 8:30 AM–6:00 PM, Saturday 8:00 AM–1:00 PM. Evening and Saturday slots are the first to fill, so book those a little further out. See our Contact page for the full schedule.

How much is a visit going to cost?

It depends on what you need, which is why no honest number can be quoted before an exam. What we can do is tell you the cost before treatment rather than after. Cindy, our office manager, will go through your specific plan, what it covers, and what you'd be responsible for, so you can decide with the real figure in front of you. Call us at (732) 367-4110 and she can start that before you even come in.

What if I don't have dental insurance?

You can still be seen. We accept CareCredit, a healthcare credit card that spreads treatment costs over time with several plan options, and Cindy can help you apply in the office or you can apply in advance at carecredit.com. Call the office and we'll talk through what the work involves and what it costs before anything is scheduled.

What insurance does Jackson Dental accept?

We're in-network with most major dental insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, Guardian, DHA, Aetna, United Healthcare, GEHA, Connection Dental, Sun Life, Zelis. Don't see your plan listed? Call us at (732) 367-4110 and we're happy to check your specific benefits before you come in.

Something broke and it hurts. Can you help today?

Call the office at (732) 367-4110 and describe what's happening. Our team can tell you over the phone whether it needs attention today and what to do in the meantime, and will arrange to see you promptly. Don't use the appointment request form for an urgent problem, since it isn't monitored after hours. Our Emergency Dentistry page covers first steps for specific situations like a knocked-out tooth or a lost filling. Uncontrolled bleeding, swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, or a possible broken jaw are emergency-room problems, not dental-office ones.

Do you offer anything for patients who feel nervous about the dentist?

Yes. Nitrous oxide is available for patients of any age who feel anxious about a visit. It takes effect quickly and wears off just as quickly once the mask comes off. Mention it when you schedule or bring it up with our team at your appointment, and we can talk through whether it's a good fit for you.

How young do you see children?

The American Dental Association recommends a first dental visit by a child's first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth coming in. That's earlier than most parents expect. At that age the visit is short and mostly about checking early development and getting a young child comfortable in the office before there's ever a reason to be nervous. Because we see every age, families are often scheduled back to back instead of making separate trips. Our Family Dentistry page has more on what changes at each age.

What do I need to do before my first appointment?

Download our new patient form from the Patient Information page, fill it out, and email it back before your visit so less of your appointment is spent at the front desk. It asks for your insurance details, a list of medications and what each is for, any allergies, your physician's name, and an emergency contact outside your household. If you'd rather not email it, bring the printed form and come a few minutes early instead.

How do I request an appointment?

Call the office, or use the Request an Appointment page to send us your information. We don't currently offer instant online booking, so that form sends a request and our team follows up to confirm a time that works. For anything urgent, call instead.

What dental services does Jackson Dental provide?

Fifteen in total, across general and family dentistry: preventive and general care, restorative treatment (dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, root canals, extractions, fillings, and gum disease treatment), cosmetic dentistry (bonding, veneers, and teeth whitening), clear aligners, and emergency care. Most of what comes up is handled in this office instead of referred out. Visit our Services page for the full list.

Does Jackson Dental offer dental implants?

Yes, including implant-supported dentures. An implant replaces the root of a missing tooth as well as the visible crown, so it's anchored in the jawbone instead of resting on the gum or clipping to neighboring teeth. Treatment runs in stages over several months, since the bone needs time to fuse to the implant post. Our Dental Implants page covers candidacy, the timeline, and how implants compare to a bridge or partial denture.

What types of dentures are available?

Full dentures replace a whole upper or lower arch and rest on the gums. Partial dentures fill gaps where some natural teeth remain and clip onto those teeth. Implant-supported dentures anchor to a small number of implants, which greatly reduces the shifting that comes with a denture resting on gum alone. Our Dentures page covers how each is made and what the adjustment period is really like.

Does Jackson Dental offer cosmetic dentistry?

Yes: bonding, veneers, teeth whitening, and clear aligners. Which one fits depends on what's bothering you. Surface discoloration is usually a whitening question, a chip or small gap is often bonding, and a tooth that's worn or misshapen as well as discolored is where veneers come up. Our Cosmetic Dentistry page walks through matching the fix to the concern.

Where is Jackson Dental located?

Our office is Suite 4 at 55 N. County Line Rd., Jackson, NJ 08527, near the Jackson–Lakewood line. We see patients from all eight towns bordering Jackson Township. See our Contact page for directions.

She earned her DDS from the NYU College of Dentistry, completed her residency at Monmouth Medical Center as Resident of the Year, and served as volunteer teaching faculty there.
